ABSTRACT – This paper focuses on the connections between the modernist writer Mario de Andrade and Brazilian popular culture, taking as leading thread the intertextual relation between the preface in Na pancada do Ganzá (
the author’s unfinished ethnographic work) and Coriolano de Medeiros’s introduction to the anthology Cantadores e Poetas Populares, published by Francisco Chagas Baptista in 1929.
